SUMMERcollege '08 - ALL DETAILS HERE!

Coming your way for TCBCcollege summer '08:

We've got a great summer planned for those of you who are sticking around Ft. Worth - summer's are a little slower, a lot smaller, and are an all-around great time to really build relationships, have deep conversations, and have a lot of good, laid-back fun! All events are tentative for now, but here's what's coming up for SUMMERcollege '08! (And yes, if you're graduating in '08, you're welcome to spend the summer with us)

Sunday mornings in the book of Ruth:

Lent 2008

Today (Wednesday, Feb 6) is the first day of the 2008 season of Lent, set up by early church fathers as a 40-day (+ Sundays) preparation for Easter. For some of you, this season, the concept of giving something up, and this entire concept is very familiar; for others, it might be brand new.

Several folks had questions about Lent last year, so I wrote a few things down, so that hopefully we can approach the season with a unified view, and so that each of us can understand the benefit and rich meaning of this centuries-old tradition... enjoy! Let me know your thoughts (benc@trinitychapelbc.org). And happy Lent.

Of First Importance...

I would like to challenge you to join Jess & I in reading through the entire Bible over the course of this year.  If you've never done it before, it's amazing to see the unity and "big picture" of scripture, and how the depth of your knowledge and understanding of Christ will grow strong.  I know we're a few days into the year already (darn getting snowed in in Crested Butte!), but if you read 2 days each for the next 10 days, you'll be caught up - in less than 30 minutes a day!

There are many ways of keeping your spiritual life strong, but this is a great method of keeping you on-track, giving you some accountability to read each day, and of enlarging your view and appreciation of all who God is!  A reading plan is attached to the bottom of this article - please prayerfully consider jumping on this project; email me if you're in so I can be praying for you & encouraging you along the way!

SUDAN 2008

I'm excited to let you know that our Sudan trip is officially happening, & it's going to be a great 10 days of impacting the country for Christ as we feel the weight of his glory culminating in a new church being started form our efforts! This is from Mike Congrove, our U.S. contact for E3, the organization we'll be going with:

"I’m glad you’re looking into joining us in Southern Sudan. The trip is set for May 15 – May 26. We’ll be going to Kajo Keji, Sudan in the far south, central part of Sudan, just across from the Uganda border. This is the hometown of our Sudanese national director, David Kaya. Our mission will be to plant a new church—or two. We’ll work alongside local believers and pastors to bring the gospel into an new village in that area. We’ll use the EvangeCube to share the gospel during the day, and gather the new believers together, typically under a tree, where we’ll begin the very first steps of discipleship.
By the end of the week that little gathering of new believers will be the beginnings of a new church that a pastor will shepherd, we pray, for years to come.

Avoiding Sexual Immorality

This 2-page document is a scattered, "shotgun"-approach to encouraging you in various aspects of your battle for purity. Designed to accompany our 4-part "UNCENSORED" series (available in podcast form @ iTunes - search for "TCBCcollege"), these are practical suggestions divided into 2 catagories: (1) changing your heart & mind to pursue godliness & purity, & (2) "walls" you can build along that journey, to help yourself out.

Click the link below to open a .pdf document, which you can download - & feel free to share it with folks you know who are in the battle right along with you!

PODCASTING!

  Hey all -

Just want to give you a quick update: as of 1.28.07, WE'VE ENTERED THE WORLD OF PODCASTING!

BUT BEFORE YOU SUBSCRIBE, READ THIS: You might be asking, "why? What on earth does our little college group need a podcast for?" Know that I've asked myself the same thing since the idea first came up in August '06, & that I've been struggling with it since then. First, it seems like everybody - & especially every church! - has a podcast. Second, it seems that many times, podcasting is for the wrong reasons: to make the name of the ministry famous, or the speaker, or... to glorify something other than God. THAT IS NOT OUR PURPOSE!!!
