8.28.08: A City on a Campus...

If you missed our fall '08 kick-off (Aug 24), we looked at Jeremiah 29, at the concept of being "a city within a city" as we cast our vision for TCBCcollege '08-'09. Our goal and prayer is that our little ministry becomes more than a group that meets on Sundays and in homes throughout the week, and that YOU build relationships on your campus outside the "Jesus bubble" that forms on college/university campuses.

Specifically, here's what we asked you to commit to this fall:

  • Pray specifically for 3 people in your sphere of influence (for their salvation, spiritual growth, for opportunities for you to talk about God with them, etc.)
  • Commit to doing one thing to "expand the city of God" on your campus this fall (the possibilities are endless!)

You can get the entire talk audio from Sunday at the TCBCcollege podcast on iTunes: search "TCBCcollege" on the iTunes store. While it will take all of us working together this year, we can expand "the city of God" in your spheres of influence, become a movement for the name and glory of Christ, and in your context, we can become "a city on a campus!"

Some of you have emailed, wanting more info/resources for this - that's awesome; thanks for already owning the vision! Here are a few:

The City of God, St. Augustine (book - abridged)

Radical Reformission, Mark Driscoll (book)

"A City Within A City," Beau Hughes (sermon, 9.16.07)

"Missional Discipleship," Jonathan Dodson (article)

"A City in A City," Mark Driscoll (sermon)

"What Church Will You Build for Your City?," Halim Suh (sermon, 3.16.08)

And ironically, just this week our good friends down at The Austin Stone (Austin, TX) posted a blog entry about their new building project, dealing with this exact subject: "A Church for the City"

Let me know thoughts; enjoy! And thanks for joining in our high calling and our challenging vision for you this year!
